About Us

Welcome to Ocotillo Art Studio

I’m Rachael, an artist with a rich background that blends creativity with the essence of human connection. My journey began in the small, rain-drenched town of my childhood, nestled on the main street where the local Ceramic Shop became my second home. From a young age, I was immersed in the world of art, learning the delicate dance of paint and clay under the guidance of the shop’s owner. This early exposure to art not only shaped my passion but also led me to teach painting classes to adults at the tender age of thirteen.

My artistic exploration didn’t stop there. Throughout my teenage years, I ventured into the world of sculpting, creating commissioned portraits that captured the essence of individuals across the United States. One of my most memorable projects during high school was a sculpted portrait of my art teacher’s wife, a piece that earned me a spot in the local newspaper.

After high school, my thirst for knowledge and new experiences took me to Mali, West Africa, where I embraced the challenge of teaching literacy classes in Bambara. Despite the demands of teaching, I continued to paint and discovered the unique beauty of African clay, further enriching my sculpting skills.

My academic journey led me to Corban University in Salem, Oregon, where I delved into Interdisciplinary Social Sciences, focusing on Cultural Anthropology, Psychology, and Sociology. This diverse education paved the way to my interest in Aesthetic Dentistry, combining art and science in Orem, Utah.

Life’s adventures brought me back to Washington, where I met and married my partner, Cody Harris, in 2004. Our love story continued in sunny St. George, Utah, where we started our family and home filled with laughter, art projects, and endless creativity. As a mother of three art-loving children, I began hosting art classes and Summer Art Camps from our home in 2016, fostering a nurturing environment for creativity and growth.

My commitment to making a difference extended to Little Valley Elementary, where I worked with extraordinary children with special needs, blending my love for art with my passion for helping others. These experiences have deepened my appreciation for inclusivity, leading me to ensure our Summer Art Camps are welcoming to students of all abilities.

Travel remains a source of inspiration for me, offering endless opportunities to study culture and human connection. My love for sculpting, drawing, painting, sewing, and creating continues to grow, as does my desire to invest in the lives of others. My mission is to inspire those around me to thrive in life, relationships, emotions, and imagination. Join me on this journey of creativity and discovery, where art meets heart.

"Rachael Harris and her art classes are so incredible. All 4 of my children have had the opportunity to attend camps and classes with Rachael, and it's always a creative and positive experience. It goes beyond arts and crafts, as it always has purpose and thought too. My children have grown artistically and socially and they have so much fun. Rachael is kind and welcoming and I highly recommend her classes to children of all ages."
